Day 3 and 4: Piran and Bled

Day 3: Piran and Bled

The Slovenia part of our trip has begun! We headed to Koper, Slovenia to rent a car for our Slovenia part of the trip. It would have been crazy expensive to rent in Italy and drop off in Slovenia. Plus, we thought it would be nice to see the Slovenian coast along the way. We were supposed to join a bike tour at this point, but it was raining so hard it was not possible. Instead we took a car tour of two of the coastal towns, Izola and Piran. It was still pouring in Izola, so we don’t have much to show for it.  But the sky opened up so we could have a little sun while we were in Piran.  Here are a couple shots from above...

And below in Tartini Central square. Just to my left in this picture will be the place that my wallet went missing and sent this part of the trip into a slight tail spin.

But it could have been much worse... luckily we had ourselves pretty well prepared for something like this. Kelly and I had brought different cards and always split up the money. So after cancelling the cards and wincing at the cash lost, we drove to a fairy tale destination magical enough to make us forget the last day. A tree house in Garden Village at Lake Bled.

Garden Village is considered a Green resort, or eco friendly. The grow a lot of their veggies and herbs. They don’t use any harsh chemicals. Their pool doesn’t have chlorine, it has some sort of filtration system that keeps it clean.

They lit a fire each night in this gazebo.

We ate on tables that were mostly grass...

It was a great place to end a stressful day.

Day 4: Bled and Soteska Vintgar

Lake Bled is Slovenia’s most famous lake. It has an island with a church in the middle of it. You could walk all the way around the lake with a beautiful view of the church the whole time.

Our excursion for the day was originally going to be SUP to the Bled church island, but because of the rain we changed things up. Instead, we drove up to Soteska Vintgar. It was a 1.6 km gorge that had bridges and well maintained walking paths all along the river. The water was an unbelievable color blue and there were so many waterfalls along the way.

We couldn’t stop taking pictures! It was so pretty. Every turn on the gorge it seemed like it grew prettier and prettier.

The pictures just couldn’t do this place justice, but this was the closest we had that captured the color.

After a day of adventure, we hydrated ourselves with some Slovenians beers and wine. We were not let down, everything we tried was delicious and hydrating of course.
We finished the day warming our cold, weary bones in a Finnish Sauna looking over a pasture.
